CES 2025 is only a day in, and it's quickly turning into an event where the dam has truly broke with Switch 2 rumors and leaks. Accessory manufacturers had already been a major source of the Switch 2 rumor mill, but they now have CES 2025 to really showcase products for a console that Nintendo still hasn't officially revealed as of yet.
We already reported about a Switch 2 dummy model that was at CES 2025. However, French media outlet Numerama has now released some video of the model. The video also contains a demonstration of how the Joy-Cons connect to the console, and it seems that the Joy-Cons are now magnetic. A comparison of the Switch 2 dummy model is also done with the Switch 1, with the former being clearly larger.
That's not all. Numerama also shared additional details on their site. It has been revealed that the reason why Genki is showcasing all this in advance is because Genki doesn't have any contract or partnership with Nintendo. What is particularly interesting is that Genki told Numerama that the console will be releasing in April. In fact, they even outright state that they will be releasing their accessories, 8 of them to be exact, simultaneously with the console's release.
Genki also tells Numerama that the Switch 2 Joy-Cons do, indeed, have a new optical sensor that has been a subject of recent rumors and leaks. Genki says it's a new feature of the console, "even if it has not been able to test games that use it". The magnetic connection of the new Joy-Cons is apparently a "very solid feel" and there is a button to disconnect them from the console. Numerama says that, though they couldn't show it on video, they got to see some Switch 2 Joy-Cons with a colored joystick. However, they did note that "it is impossible to tell if these are the real accessories or replicas designed for promotional purposes".
As for the Switch 2 itself, Numerama reports that there is a second USB-C port on the top of the console. What is rather shocking is that, according to what multiple accessory makers have told Numerama, it is actually possible to acquire the console via the black market, but only if "you put up the money". Numerama isn't sure if that's true or not, but they do clearly state that multiple accessory manufacturers are telling them that they actually own a real Switch 2 unit, and that is how they've built their molds from.
It also turns out that it's not just Genki that is claiming an April release for the console. According to Numerama, "several accessory makers" have been in agreement that April will be the month when the Switch 2 releases. Of course, by now, you're very aware of the fact that this kind of news should always be kept with an open mind due to the fact that this isn't coming straight from Nintendo. Nevertheless, you can see the video of the Switch 2 dummy model down below.
