Good morning, The best leaders, according to organizational psychologist and author Adam Grant, are those with a learning mindset. The tricky part? You may not be as open to learning as you think. Grant recently tweeted a hierarchy of thinking styles. In this five-tier pyramid, he revealed how most of us process our day-to-day lives--and, consequently, either grow or stagnate. The best of all thinkers are able to say, "I might be wrong." They welcome outside voices, opinions, and perspectives. They lean on evidence without dismissing emotional impact. In sum, they're learners. But the vast majority us rarely think in that tier–we’re too busy trying to knock down another person’s argument or advocate for our own point of view. Read on for Grant’s theory on why one of the clearest signs of your ability to learn–and become a better leader–is a willingness to change your mind. |
