When there isn't any updates, the game is receiving themes that fans can get from Maximus Cups. Most of the new themes involve a first-party game that recently released on the Nintendo Switch. However, this is a rare exception. The 43rd Tetris 99 Maximus has been officially announced, but this one has technically been known since Nintendo's Partner Direct back in August. Tetris is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, so it will be themed on the NES version of Tetris. The Maximus Cup will be taking place this week, beginning on December 6th.
