Reinventing a $5 trillion industry |
| | Note: Kevin J. Ryan, staff writer at Inc., is stepping in for Brit while she is away from the computer today. Good morning, Within the industrial sprawl of South Kearny, New Jersey, a farming revolution is afoot. That’s the home of Bowery Farming, a vertical farming startup growing lettuce, herbs, and strawberries inside a century-old building. Bowery is one of more than 50 vertical farming companies in the U.S. Compared with traditional farms, vertical farms grow crops faster with higher yields, while using far less water and no pesticides--they’re 100 times more productive per square foot of farmland. It’s no wonder the controlled environment agriculture industry has attracted billions in startup capital over the past decade. Read Inc.’s feature on the booming vertical farming industry to learn about how these entrepreneurs are changing the way America grows its crops. |
