While everyone enjoys getting a new phone or camera, it can be hard to know what to do with outgoing tech. Simply throwing it away seems a terrible waste, and sentimental types like me don't fare much better—my preference is to hoard my old phones in a shoebox under my bed, along with a tangle of wires that are almost certainly obsolete. Occasionally I'll rifle through the collection on the off chance that I can retrofit an adaptor to my current setup. This rarely succeeds, but I enjoy reminiscing over clunky handsets, ancient text messages, and Snake. There are better ways to give old phones, laptops, and cameras a new life, however. You might be surprised by how many ways you can repurpose a piece of hardware, even if it has become too slow to fulfill its original function.
