Good morning, Bumble, the dating-app company, recently came up with a simple solution to pandemic-related employee burnout. It let everyone unplug--all at once. The 700-person global company had tried allocating extra vacation days, but found that employees weren’t completely disconnecting. "The stress comes from always being connected--but when working from home, or vacationing, there's always a feeling of, 'What am I missing?'" says Bumble’s president, Tariq Shaukat. So Bumble announced it would give the entire company the week of June 21 off. It even coined a hashtag: #APaidWeekOff. When the week arrived, feedback was overwhelmingly positive. "A number of people said: 'I had no idea how badly I was vacationing,’” Shaukat says. Shaukat says businesses that are meeting- and teamwork-heavy could easily take a page from Bumble's new playbook.
