In a resurfaced interview via Games Radar the legendary video game developer Shigeru Miyamoto talks about The Legend of Zelda 2 and while the game was Miyamoto’s idea, it was developed by another team at Nintendo. While it is not as highly regarded as other games in the franchise Miyamoto looks back and considers the game as “sort of a failure.” He said internally they are of the opinion that the acclaimed The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past for the Super Nintendo was the real sequel to the original Zelda and The Legend of Zelda 2 was really “more of a side story.” Here’s what he said:
[Zelda 2] “was my original idea, but the actual game was developed by another team.”
“The games I make usually get better in the development process, since we keep coming up with good ideas, but Zelda 2 stayed the same. It was sort of a failure.”
“We actually see A Link to the Past as the real sequel to The Legend of Zelda. Zelda 2 was more of a side story about what happened to Link after the events of The Legend of Zelda.”

Shigeru Miyamoto has revealed that The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which launched later in Japan than the rest of the world, wasn’t just localised from English to Japanese but was instead rebuilt. Shigeru Miyamoto said that the team were told to “use the visuals as a base to create something entertaining in Japanese.” So this presumably makes a big change from how things are normally done with Hollywood films which eventually debut in Japan. Here’s what Mr. Miyamoto had to say:
“Since this is a project made both in Japan and the US, we didn’t want the Japanese version to be just a localization of the English version, we wanted to properly write and craft it in Japanese,”
“Makoto Ueda from the theater group Europe Kikaku, who handled the Japanese script, is someone I’ve known for a long time. I want Mario and company to speak with the kind of natural dialogue you’d hear in one of their stage productions, but localization tends to alter the rhythm of conversations. Jokes differ between Japan and overseas, so we wanted to make the dialogue feel as natural as possible,” Miyamoto explains.
