Every year, Inc.'s staff gets together for a spirited discussion on which business to crown the company of the year. It’s never easy. The winner has to meet a high bar: we’re looking for a company that has shown in the last year potential to have an enormous impact not only inside its specific industry but also far beyond. Some of our past winners include Cloudflare, Mailchimp, Slack, and Impossible Foods.
This year was no different. The list of contenders was long and the pitches were passionate. Ultimately, we landed on one that is both a lighthouse and a powerhouse for a booming industry that has had a stormy initial decade.
