As a result, Ali Moloo’s business myDigitalOffice, a Bethesda, Maryland-based company that places everything from inventory to payroll to convenience-store sales onto a single software platform, started losing customers fast. So he called on his mentor Jim McKelvey, who successfully launched payment platform Square amid the financial meltdown of the late aughts. McKelvey told Mooloo he had two choices: he could let the company lie dormant, or grow it in preparation for the future. Moloo chose the latter.
