Good morning, If your team no longer feels like a team after 16 months of remote work, that should come as no surprise, says Belgian psychotherapist Esther Perel. When “predictable and controlled” communication via Zoom and other tools replaces meaningful personal interactions, employees can begin to feel not seen or valued. But that doesn’t mean your culture is broken for good. Perel offers a framework for a much-needed reset. Before you go back to the office, share your own frustrations and struggles with your team, she says. Everyone has been through trauma during the pandemic, even if it has looked very different for each person. “The shared resilience and the collective resilience can then help people go back.” Then, before you jump into work, sit down with your team and talk candidly about their experiences over the past year, she says. After all, you need to identify the cracks in the system before you can begin to repair them. Read our story to learn the four questions Perel suggests you ask to start the conversation. |
