Good morning, Early in her career, Cindy Eckert planned to take the traditional path: get a job at a big company and work her way up. That was, until she realized something important: Those companies were a "sea of sameness" that homogenized everyone who entered. "I didn't quite fit," Eckert said during an Inc. Real Talk webinar Tuesday. Instead, in 2011, she founded Raleigh-based Sprout Pharmaceuticals, maker of the controversial women’s libido drug Addyi, which successfully won U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval. The next few years came with a couple unexpected twists. In 2015, Eckert sold Sprout to Valeant Pharmaceuticals for $1 billion, and left the company as part of the deal. In 2017, after Valeant laid off her original team, Eckert bought Sprout back and rehired many of her former employees. The tortuous road taught Eckert plenty about how companies, their investors, and employees can thrive. Check out our recap of the hourlong event to learn Eckert’s hardfought insights on healthy work cultures, and watch a video recording of the entire conversation. |
