The subsidary, which was called Nintendo Phuten, didn't last. In 2014, Nintendo decided to close its doors. Nevertheless, the company didn't abandon Taiwan completely. Despite there no longer being a subsidiary and Nintendo Hong Kong handling the reigns in the region ever since, they continued to maintain some kind of presence there as best as they can. Well, fortunately, the maintained presence seems to have paid off. Nintendo has decided to make a new Taiwanese subsidiary there. It was formed a week ago, but it wasn't formally announced until today. According to Nintendo, the decision to do this was because they wanted to "further strengthen our business base in the Taiwan market and improve the quality of customer service". The subsidiary will not have the same name as the old subsidiary did. In fact, Nintendo has confirmed that it will be called Nintendo of Taiwan and will be based in Taipei. Most importantly, it was officially confirmed that the new Nintendo of Taiwan will be taking over operations in the region when the new fiscal year arrives on April 1st. Source | | | |
