Hong Kong updates entry restrictions, Larry Brilliant weighs in on the state of the pandemic, and President Biden leaves quarantine. Here's what you should know:
Headlines Hong Kong loosens quarantine requirements for arrivals (Reuters) Starting this Friday, people arriving in Hong Kong will need to quarantine in a hotel for only three days, down from seven. At one point, quarantines were as long as three weeks. The city has had stringent border restrictions in place since the start of the pandemic, and is one of the only places in the world where new arrivals still need to quarantine. Under the new rules, people will need to monitor themselves for four more days after they leave hotels, and won't be allowed to go to public places like restaurants during that time. Epidemiologist Larry Brilliant parses the pitfalls of rapid antigen testing (WIRED) In a recent interview with WIRED's Steven Levy, epidemiologist Larry Brilliant weighed in on new Covid-19 variants that are already arriving stateside, as well as the updated boosters, which he says can't arrive quickly enough. He also pointed out that rapid antigen tests, while useful for individuals who want a quick result, may be a significant hindrance to the Covid-19 response because there's no requirement to report positive cases, making it difficult to keep track of the virus even though the pandemic is far from over. President Biden ends his second isolation after testing negative (New York Times) On Sunday, President Biden tested negative for the second day in a row and exited isolation. He originally tested positive for Covid in late July, when he started experiencing mild symptoms such as a sore throat and runny nose. After taking Paxlovid and isolating for five days, he tested negative and returned to work in person, but had to reenter isolation when he tested positive again several days later. This time, he spent a week in quarantine.
