Good morning, Few people know what it takes to disrupt a major business category better than GT Dave. He’s the founder of GT’s Living Foods, a probiotic foods company known for its kombucha. With a 40 percent share of the global kombucha business, which is estimated to reach $8 billion by 2027, his company rules its industry niche. The achievement is all the more impressive given that Dave launched his company at the tender age of 15, back in 1995. During a wide-ranging interview on Wednesday at an Inc. Real Talk virtual streaming event, Dave delved into some of the secrets that helped him essentially create a new category in the beverage industry, and maintain dominance over it for decades. For example, Dave has a habit of doing something many successful founders and CEOs often skip: speaking with customers directly. Social media and email help him maintain dialogues with customers and fans--and, by extension, help him stay in touch with the rapidly changing consumer marketplace and ahead of trends. Sometimes, Dave said, he wishes he could hire someone to handle his social media. But then, he remembers how much those interactions keep him grounded and his business humming. Check out our recap of the hourlong conversation to learn Dave’s top takeaways for disrupting an industry, so you can potentially go out and do the same. |
