With digital imagery, you don't have to worry about how many shots you have, whether you put the film in correctly, or what you'll get back from the drugstore. Now, the cloud holds all, ready to share on a screen near you. Digging out old physical photos and digitizing them makes them available to share widely, through messages or on social media.
You could simply snap a photo of your old photos, but you can get better results with a photo scanning app. You can also use photo digitizing services, but they're expensive and require you to send your photos away. By far the easiest option for digitizing old photos is to use your phone.
First, choose the best phone, whether that's iPhone or Android: The quality of your phone camera will impact the results you get with a photo scanning app. Don't feel like you have to scan every photo; the photos you do choose should be removed from their plastic covering and cleaned before scanning (no smudgy thumbprints!). Make sure to use a plain background—white tends to work well—and like the Instagram baddies have taught us, natural lighting is best (when a ring light is unavailable).
When you've got the shot, share the photos with friends and family and display them digitally so the images can finally see the light of day instead of being banished to dusty photo albums.
