How to prepare your team for tomorrow's election results |
| | Good morning, Today is Election Day--and if this year is at all similar to 2016, that means tomorrow is going to be a pretty abnormal workday. In the presidential race, Donald Trump could get re-elected. Or, Joe Biden could win. We might not know who won by the time we all wake up tomorrow morning. And any of those three outcomes will surely drive your workplace’s conversations all day long, no matter what you try to do about it. So instead of trying to halt political talk in the office this week, take the opportunity today to establish some ground rules. Inc.com columnist Suzanne Lucas has some good suggestions: For example, set a baseline of civility so that any employees with opposing viewpoints don’t go at each other’s throats. Keep political gear out of the workplace. And keep your Employee Assistance Program number handy, because you have employees who’ll probably need it. Read Lucas’s column for the full rundown of preparatory measures you can take--and why they’ll matter this year, perhaps more than any other year. Plus: If you’re eligible to vote and you haven’t done so yet, set aside as much time as you can today to visit your local polling precinct. Consider encouraging your employees to do the same. And don’t forget to consult our Election Guide to see where the candidates stand on the issues that matter the most to your business. |
