But somewhere between performance, size, weight, and price, there's a machine that will make everyone happy. We test dozens of laptops, tablets, and accessories every year, so we know these picks will stand up to some serious use: For high school and college students, you can't go wrong with Apple's MacBook Air. It's light, easy to cart around in a backpack all day, and powerful enough for most tasks. This version with the latest M3 chip and 8 GB of RAM is just $850 ($250 off). If your (school)work mainly involves taking notes, doing research, reading textbooks, and other knowledge-related tasks, you might be able to skip the laptop and use a much lighter tablet like the iPad Air ($800 $750).
