Unlike Watergate, it appears doubtful that public hearings into the Jan. 6 insurrection will produce a sea-change in American politics – mostly due to a nation more deeply divided along party lines.

The two new subvariants are showing signs that they could become the dominant strains circulating as the U.S. averages more than 100,000 new coronavirus cases each day.

The cases, which will likely have massive implications for abortion rights, gun control, religious freedom and more, are expected to be decided in a matter of week.

A new poll suggests voters generically favor Republicans over Democrats heading into the midterms. But when Donald Trump is mentioned, it's a different story.

House Democrats are taking a big step forward on legislation to curb gun violence. But much of the substance won't make it into any Senate deal with plans for a narrower focus.

The Education Department is calling for stricter laws on the state level to prevent school systems from shielding teachers who are accused of sexual misconduct with students.
