Want long-term success? Try compassion |
| | Good morning, For Scott Shute, mindfulness is a full-time job. Literally. In 2018, after six years as Linkedin's vice president, global customer operations, Schute became head of the company's mindfulness and compassion programs. He leads a team that holds 40 to 60 meditation sessions a week across the globe, hosts workshops on topics such as resilience and a growth mindset, and conducts mini retreats for those who want to deepen their mindfulness practices. In the course of that job, Shute has explored people’s complicated relationships with work--and he says that for entrepreneurs, it’s particularly important to make that relationship a healthy one. One of his suggestions: Reframe even your negative or mundane day-to-day interactions around gratitude. When you instinctively view challenges as opportunities, he says, you gain more compassion for yourself and those who work with you. And--eventually--more compassion in terms of how your organization operates in the world. “Compassion is a strategy for long-term success,” he tells Inc. “Companies who take care of all stakeholders do better.” Read our story to learn why, along with Shute’s other important lessons for maintaining a healthy relationship with your work. |
