Good morning, If your company isn't participating in the circular economy, today--Earth Day--is a fitting occasion to ask yourself, "Why not?" Many businesses follow a linear economy where products are created, used, and thrown away. Companies that participate in the circular economy continuously recycle materials, in a way that’s meant to make doing business and combating climate change mutually beneficial. Conventional wisdom says the approach means more expenses, but it can actually save money by reusing materials, says Kate Daly, managing director of the Center for the Circular Economy at Closed Loop Partners, an investment firm in New York City. The practice could be key to keeping existing customers loyal to your brand: A 2020 study from IBM and the National Retail Federation found that 57 percent of U.S consumers are willing to change their purchasing habits to help reduce negative environmental impact. There are similar benefits for hiring new talent, as nearly 80 percent of respondents to a 2019 Glassdoor survey indicated that they would consider a business's mission when thinking about whether to apply for a job. Read our story to learn who’s already participating in the circular economy (including some names you’ll recognize), how they’re doing it, and why it can help you future-proof your business. |
